BRIEF HISTORY
Masaka City Public Library was opened in 1963 under Public Libraries Board. In 1979, the then established library was on Plot No. 37 Victoria Road, which was destroyed during war.
Efforts were made in 1980 to re-establish the service, but this was in vein till 1994 when the library re-opened to the Public. The library is now under National Library of Uganda, managed by Masaka City in the Department of Gender and Community Based Services.
Staffing
The library is managed by a librarian and one assistant, who promote easy access to information and boasting a reading culture in the community.
SECTIONS
Masaka City Public Library is divided into 3 sections; the children’s , adult and ICT (Information and Communication Technology) section; fully stocked with a variety of books, computers and ICT (Information and Communication Technology) gargets.

PROJECTS
1. Inspiring readers project; by Book Aid International under this project libraries have been set up in primary schools like Kijjabwemi COU Primary School, Kimaanya Blessed Primary School, St. Anthony Gayaza Primary School, Police Children’s Primary School.
2. Digital skills for libraries by EIFL , Maendeleo Foundation and Peer to Peer University. Under this project the youth and women are empowered with digital skills free of charge to promote their online skills.
3. Local content project by Book Aid International. Under this project local publications were promoted through the E-readers.
4. E-reading project by World Reader and Book Aid International. These provided E-readers to the library to promote digital reading for the children in the community.
5. 21 days of yellow care by MTN Uganda, where they provided computers to the library for all people to access.
6. Children space by Book Aid International who provide reading and play materials for children
SERVICES PROVIDED
1.The library provides reference services to the City through newspapers, books, periodical and encyclopedia.
2. Free internet service to the community which promotes research to the public.
3. Free digital training to youth and women.
4. Free digital reading to Primary schools within the City (Digital library)
5. Free space for playing and reading materials for children supported by Book Aid International.
